AMS announces 50% off a Haul, Hold, Wash,

Inspect, and Launch

At the request of some of our customers and because many boat owners want to see, first hand, the condition of their boat bottom out of the water, AMS has instituted a discounted price for a Haul, Hold, Wash, Inspection, and Launch.

This offer is intended for current customers and for the recipients of our newsletter.

If a customer agrees to Haul, Hold, Wash, and Launch their boat at least two times a year (up to a maximum of 4 times a year), the normal per foot price of $4.50 will be cut in half to $2.25 per foot per haulout.

After the boat is hauled out, it will be professionally pressure washed and held in the slings to be inspected by the boat owner. If requested, one of our qualified AMS employees would be happy to assist with the inspection.

Some of the questions we ask and some of the things we look for on an inspection are:

  1. Is there any extra prep needed on items like the running gear, keel, rudder, waterline, or other areas on the boat bottom?
  2. Is there any damage on the boot stripe or on the hullsides?
  3. Are there any cracks or damage to the hull bottom?
  4. Is there at least 1" of paint above the waterline?
  5. Is there pitting, damage, or indications of electrolysis on the prop(s), shaft(s), strut(s), rudder(s), thruhulls, or other parts?
  6. Are any of the paddle wheels broken or missing?
  7. Are the trim tabs and screws in good condition?
  8. Do the zincs need replacing on the shaft(s), strut(s), rudder(s), trimtabs, or elsewhere?
  9. Are the shaft zincs at least 2 " forward or aft of the strut bearing(s)?
  10. Are all external sea strainers and thruhulls clean and in good condition?
  11. Is the keel and keel seam in good condition?
  12. Are there blisters on the bottom and, if so, how many are there, what is their size and location, and what is the cost to repair?
  13. Is there an excessive build up of paint?
  14. Is there any condition listed above that would call for the need to remove all of the paint back to gelcoat?

Of course, if anything on the bottom inspection indicates that the boat should stay out of the water until certain repairs are made, AMS will be ready to block the boat.

If some or all of the zincs (excluding outdrive zincs, see below) need to be replaced, an AMS technician can remove the old zincs and install new ones. One advantage to replacing zincs while the boat is out of the water is the ability to get a clean, dry bond between the zincs and the underwater metal parts for maximum protection against unwanted galvanic corrosion.

As announced in the AMS summer newsletter, CR Marine is offering free outdrive inspections (by appointment only) and if outdrive servicing is needed, AMS will use one of its two hoists to haul and hold the boat throughout the day so that the lower unit oil and outdrive zincs can be renewed by CR Marine before the boat goes back in the water.

If a customer intends to make a regular haulout schedule part of their ongoing underwater maintenance program, they should coordinate with their dive service regarding the bottom cleaning and zinc replacement schedule.

Please call us at (805) 985-1818 for more information or to set up a haulout schedule.
