Mast Refinishing

Aluminum Mast Painting and Refinishing

  1. Sandblast surface to white metal.
  2. Spray with a anticorrosive epoxy primer (Pro-line Y3061). Sandblasted surface should be coated as soon as possible. After first coat, epoxy primer can be recoated within 4 hours to 30 days.
  3. Fill and fair all holes and pits (optional)
  4. Sand to a smooth surface using #120 grit or rougher
  5. Spray with one coat anticorrosive primer and one coat color barrier coat (Pro-line Y3066)
  6. Sand to a smooth surface using # 220 or # 320 grit.
  7. Spray 2 coats polyurethane coating (Sterling Polyurethane Coatings)

Prep and paint of masts that are not sandblasted

  1. Mast must be sanded to surface that is capable of accepting coating with strong thinners, (1 part coatings must be removed) #120 grit
  2. Any areas that are sanded through to bare metal must be primed with anticorrosive epoxy primer. (Pro-line Y3061)
  3. Sand spots that are newly primed and entire mast with #220 or #320 grit and spray 2 coats polyurethane.

All coatings should be sanded if over 8 hours has elapsed.
