Mast Refinishing
Aluminum Mast Painting and Refinishing
- Sandblast surface to white metal.
- Spray with a anticorrosive epoxy primer (Pro-line Y3061). Sandblasted surface should be coated as soon as possible. After first coat, epoxy primer can be recoated within 4 hours to 30 days.
- Fill and fair all holes and pits (optional)
- Sand to a smooth surface using #120 grit or rougher
- Spray with one coat anticorrosive primer and one coat color barrier coat (Pro-line Y3066)
- Sand to a smooth surface using # 220 or # 320 grit.
- Spray 2 coats polyurethane coating (Sterling Polyurethane Coatings)
Prep and paint of masts that are not sandblasted
- Mast must be sanded to surface that is capable of accepting coating with strong thinners, (1 part coatings must be removed) #120 grit
- Any areas that are sanded through to bare metal must be primed with anticorrosive epoxy primer. (Pro-line Y3061)
- Sand spots that are newly primed and entire mast with #220 or #320 grit and spray 2 coats polyurethane.
All coatings should be sanded if over 8 hours has elapsed.
